Hurricane Harvey Rescues Still Waiting for a Home

Hurricane Harvey Rescues - Special Pals No-Kill Shelter, Houston

Special Pals took in nearly 70 dogs and cats in the weeks following Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Most of these lost souls were reunited with their families in the weeks after the storm. A year later, some rescued animals have never been claimed and are still waiting for a second chance. Can you help these Hurricane Harvey rescues finally find a home?

Houston

This gorgeous boy is a cheerful Chow mix. His ideal pad: an athletic home that will walk and even run regularly to keep him engaged. Houston is great on a leash and he definitely prefers fast walks or runs. He’s smart, and he knows it! Houston knows how to sit, shake, and can be taught more.

An experienced dog owner would be the best fit for Houston. He will get into mischief if he’s not kept busy, so a home that will use positive behavior training and redirecting is a must. Grab your sneakers and come see him at Special Pals!

Lucy

Beautiful Lucy is a Black and Tan Coonhound mix, and her nose leads the way on walks. She knows what she wants and will walk for miles following a whiff of something! Although her puppy days are behind her, Lucy still has a lot of energy.

She is a total cuddle bug, too! When the weather is cool, she will wait patiently for her blanket and snuggle up under it in her kennel at Special Pals. Wouldn’t you love a buddy like that to cuddle with on your couch? Come meet Lucy!

Davey

Davey is a mostly-lab mix who loves to play chase and has a mischievous streak. This big fella was a hard nut to crack! He was not too fond of our Sunday dog walks at first, but finally allowed someone other than the Special Pals staff to give him a walk earlier this year. Now Davey’s favorite day is Sunday!

He has bonded strongly to our staff, and we know that he will do the same with his forever family if they give him time. The best way to get into Davey’s heart? Come visit him a few times at Special Pals. He can be wary of strangers, but consistency and patience will pay off and you will have a loyal friend.

Like all animals adopted at Special Pals, Houston, Lucy, and Davey will come home current on all vaccines, spayed or neutered, and microchipped.
