After 40 years in the Houston community, things at Special Pals are changing. We want you to know that we are not closing, but we are pausing many of our operations and refocusing our efforts. Our mission to save lives in Houston continues, and we are excited to take these first steps to make things better for our community.
Special Pals is now Special Pals Rescue Resource Center and our mission, through collaboration with local rescue partners, is to continue to save as many animal lives as possible in Houston. We're adding rescue boarding to our services in support of that mission. Taking animals from at-risk to adoptable comes with several challenges, and so often for independent rescue groups the biggest challenge of them all is finding enough safe spaces for rescued dogs. With our rescue boarding program we are ready to be that safe space, and ready to join together with rescues who share the same mission we've had since 1979: to save lives.
During the COVID-19 pandemic we've banded together with many rescue partners throughout Houston. This time has tested us in new ways, magnified the dire need for safe and affordable rescue boarding, and affirmed to our team that our new direction will positively impact the state of animal welfare in Houston.
Change is difficult, but we know we’ll have help. We have the love and support of so many members of the Katy and Houston community; many of you have been supporting us for decades! Whether it’s picking up laundry, dropping off emergency supplies, or taking the time to scoop litter boxes and walk dogs, the supporters of Special Pals always show up. Always. We thank you so much for the many ways you’ve shown up and spread the love over the last 40 years, and we can’t wait for what's next for Special Pals Rescue Resource Center!
Who We Are
Since 1979, Special Pals has been committed to saving animal lives in Houston.
The Special Pals Rescue Resource Center continues that work by providing affordable temporary services to partner rescues, empowering them to save more lives through cooperation and adoption.
We envision the day when Houston is the Gold Standard for animal welfare.
